Windows 8 is currently available for free download in pre-beta version showing off the current stage of the OS. It comes in three different packages - 64-bit version, 32-bit version, and 64-bit version with developer tools.
The improvised feature-list in it includes all new Windows App Store and new security features as well. The list of new features and improvements include -
- Windows 8 will be the first version ever of Windows which will work on both ARM based tablets and traditional x86 PCs too that are based on ARM processors from Intel and AMD. Because of the support with ARM based chipsets, touch, and sensors, it works flawlessly amongst full range of devices like ultra lightweight laptops, powerful 27-inch high definition screens, etc.
- The new "Windows to Go" feature allows Windows 8 to boot from a USB device that include user's programs, settings and files. It works with USB 2.0 as well as USB 3.0 and on both legacy NIOS and UDFI firmware. This feature enables enterprise administrators to create USB drives containing complete, managed Windows images that can be used to boot or run Windows on any computer running on Windows 7 or 8.
- Windows Store is being introduced which is similar to Mac App Store allowing users to browse thru windows apps. Developers can also publish their metro-style applications on Windows 8 devices with this App store.
- The new interactive UI of Windows 8 is specially re-designed for a metro-style design showing the most important information, embodies simplicity, and gives full control over it. It is completed touch optimized for use with touchscreen devices that supports gestures and multi-touch features.
Microsoft also confirmed that the system requirements of Windows 8 will be same as Windows 7 that is 1GHz or faster 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1GB or 2GB of RAM, and 16GB for 32-bit or 20GB for 64-bit of HD Space. Moreover, it will be able to run on tablets, notebooks, netbooks, desktops and also probably on mobile devices.
It is expected that in addition with these new features and improvements, Microsoft will also bring many other small modifications and useful features with the launch of its new Windows 8 OS. With its launch, the application development market will see many changes with the rise in the demand of Windows Application Development.
